"A CALL TO SERVE” – LOWE’S 2013 SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT

Keep America Beautiful

Lowe’s carries out our commitment to environmental sustainability through partnerships with leading nonprofits that improve the health, economy and beauty of the places we serve.

We continue to strengthen our partnership with Keep America Beautiful to bring people together to build and sustain vibrant communities and inspire a hands-on approach to environmental stewardship. Lowe’s has donated $1 million to Keep America Beautiful in each of the past three years to help deliver positive social and economic change to communities across the country.

Together, the volunteers have contributed 170,000 hours of service in their respective communities.

This year, Lowe’s awarded more than 60 grants, from $5,000 to $20,000, to Keep America Beautiful community-based affiliates and participating organizations to reduce waste, increase recycling and generate a positive impact through community improvement projects such as disaster restorations, community gardens, tree plantings and downtown enhancements.

Local Lowe’s volunteers support Keep America Beautiful affiliates through the Lowe’s Heroes program. Over the course of the partnership, Keep America Beautiful and Lowe’s have brought together more than 33,000 volunteers and 800 Lowe’s Heroes. Together, the volunteers have contributed 170,000 hours of service in their respective communities.

In 2013, the impact was seen from coast to coast and included:

  • 102,248 pounds of litter collected
  • 205 acres of parks and public land cleaned
  • 39 miles of shoreline, 27 miles of roads and 10 acres of wetlands cleaned
  • 973 trees planted
  • 869,208 flowers and bulbs planted
  • 55 playgrounds restored
  • 174 beautification and community greening projects completed
  • 458 community gardens planted

Lowe’s also provides support as a national sponsor of Keep America Beautiful’s flagship program, the Great American Cleanup, which takes place in 20,000 communities from coast to coast.

“The power of the partnership between Lowe’s and Keep America Beautiful can be seen in the work accomplished by our affiliates and the Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers who have spent countless hours to make a difference through our Great American Cleanup and targeted community initiatives,” said Jennifer Jehn, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful. “Keep America Beautiful is thrilled to work with Lowe’s to continue transforming public spaces into beautiful places for a third year.”
